HubSpot recently introduced its HubSpot payments feature.
With this feature, you can make payment links directly from your CRM and embed them on your page to receive payments.
But is this an end to your payment-related issues?
Can you now accept payments using this feature from anywhere across the planet?
Not really.
So in this post, I’ll shed some light on the HubSpot payments feature and its limitations. Along with that, I’ll also share an alternative to this feature, i.e. collecting payments through HubSpot forms.
Let’s begin then.
How to Collect Payments with HubSpot Forms?
-
HubSpot Payments
HubSpot payments is a native payments solution that helps users receive payments directly from within the HubSpot CRM.
Announced in Inbound 2021, this inbuilt HubSpot payments feature lets you create a payment link you can embed on your website pages or quotations to receive one-off as well as recurring payments.
HubSpot Payments uses Stripe as a payment gateway to process your payments.
Users will require any starter, professional, or enterprise plan to set up payments in their HubSpot CRM.
Go through this HubSpot knowledge base on HubSpot payments to learn more about the feature.
HubSpot Payments and It’s Limitations
Since this feature is in the early stage, HubSpot payments are not accessible to every user around the world.
To use this feature, your business should be located in the USA and you must possess a US bank account.
This comes out as a major drawback for now in the HubSpot payments feature.
Though HubSpot always takes user’s feedback to know which countries they want this feature to work in. But they do not guarantee when and if they can make this feature available to other countries.
So if you don’t operate from the US, you cannot use this feature (at least for now).
And that’s where HubSpot itself recommends you to use the payment apps available in their marketplace to perform payment-related actions.
And one of the most-efficient HubSpot payments apps available in their marketplace is FormPay.

Cost of Using HubSpot Payments
To use HubSpot payments, you need to have any HubSpot starter plan. And if you go with any CRM plan, you’ll have to pay a $45/month fee. But if you choose the CMS Hub starter plan, you can start with $23/month.
However, these are the on-paper costs. Having a full-fledged working HubSpot plan costs you more than it sounds.

Ultimately, you can say FormPay is a perfect alternative to HubSpot payments feature.
Currently, FormPay supports 5 popular payment gateways you can add to your HubSpot forms:

But we’re always making progress on this app and will add more gateways to appeal to a wider audience.

How is FormPay Different from Native HubSpot Payments?
Here’s the difference between FormPay integration and HubSpot native payments feature.
HubSpot Payments | FormPay |
HubSpot Payments lets you create a payment link that you can add to your landing pages or quotations. | FormPay lets you convert your existing HubSpot forms into payment forms. |
You can use HubSpot payments only if your business is located in the US and uses Stripe. | You can use FormPay anywhere in the world to collect payments with HubSpot forms. |
The HubSpot payment link you create through the HubSpot payments feature can be embedded on HubSpot CMS pages using the payment module (which also requires you to be located in the US) or on HubSpot quotes. | You can embed HubSpot payment forms on both HubSpot CMS-based or external websites using FormPay. Also, you can share only the form URL with the users so they can access the payment form only to make payments. |
HubSpot payments support major credit and debit cards like Visa, Mastercard, American Express, JCB, and ACH (bank transfers) but lack gateways like Amazon Pay. | FormPay works with multiple HubSpot payment gateways like Amazon Pay, Stripe, PayPal, Adyen, and Razorpay along with major debit and credit cards. |
Benefits of FormPay for Your Business
To make more sense and appeal more to you, let’s uncover the benefits this app brings to your business.
-
Reduce Cart Abandonment with Faster Checkouts
Cart abandonments have always been a troublemaker for eCommerce businesses.
And complex checkout process always fuels cart abandonment.
A popular Baymard report on cart abandonment shows a long and complex checkout process is responsible for 17% of the abandonments.
Recovering these carts will give your revenue a spike for sure.
And FormPay helps you exactly there.
With this HubSpot payment integration, a user can skip unnecessary checkout steps that sometimes can drive users away from your website. Any customer can pay directly through the HubSpot payment form in one go.
This curtails the steps in your checkout process and thus provides a swift checkout experience. And since the checkout process is faster, users often complete their checkout instead of abandoning their cart.
-
Gives You More Clarity About Customers’ Payment Journey
As a business, you need to keep track of your customers’ payments.
These details will keep you updated about the users who’ve paid, who haven’t, who need more nurturing, etc.
This HubSpot payment integration comes in handy here as well.
Whenever a user makes a payment through the HubSpot payment form you created with this app, the details of that payment will be synced on that contact’s record in your HubSpot CRM.
Based on these details, you can greet or remind your customers using emails, workflows, etc.
-
Time-saving Automation on Payment Data
FormPay doesn’t stop after a successful transaction. It also helps you create workflows to auto-perform post-payment actions. For example, you can create a workflow to automatically create a deal in HubSpot CRM as soon as a successful checkout takes place.
You can use a form submission as a workflow trigger to automatically create a deal for the customer who made a payment. Creating such deals will make it easier for you to track and forecast your revenue.
Here’s how an automated deal creation workflow would look like:
-
Refine Your Targeting Through Payment Properties
As soon as you install FormPay on your HubSpot portal, it creates some custom properties in your portal.
To be more precise, here’s the list of properties this app creates:
- All Forms
- Last Form Name
- Last Payment Amount
- Last Payment Currency
- Last Payment Method
- Last Payment Status
- Last Reference ID
- Last Reference Label
- Total Payment Amount
These properties store data received through the HubSpot payment forms. But you can also use these properties for segmentation, workflows, and email personalization.
For instance, the “Total Payment Amount” property stores the total amount of value a user has spent through all your HubSpot payment forms.
You can use this property to segment users as per the amount they spent. Also, you can set a spending threshold that if a user crosses, she’ll enroll in a list called “High Spenders”.
You can then pitch your most attractive offers to the users in this list. Since they’re high spenders, they’re more likely to convert.
-
Always Encourages Customers to Pay with Multiple Gateways
The best part about the HubSpot payment integration app is that it comes with multiple HubSpot payment gateways. As I said above, it comes with Amazon Pay, Stripe, PayPal, and Adyen. And more gateways are in the queue.
These widely accepted HubSpot payment gateways almost always make it possible for users to pay. They don’t need to hold back just because the paying method they use isn’t listed there.
In the same Baymard report I cited above, not enough payment gateways account for 9% of abandoned carts.
But that’s not a concern with FormPay. From the available gateways, you can add as many gateways as you like in your HubSpot payment forms.
Hence, you eliminate another reason for losing money on the table.
