With the rise in smartphones and social media, people have the power to alert others. And also let them know they are safe in a natural disaster or other crisis hits the area.

Now Google is updating the “SOS Alerts” by adding visual information about the natural calamity. Also, they have added the new Google Maps navigation warning system. So, that one can know where the disaster has occurred and where it is heading.

According to Google

And will help you to understand the situation better. This will further help you to get well prepare for all the possible good or bad circumstances.

In the days to come, Google maps will notify you if you are near the natural calamity area in the form of alerts. Also, it will predict you on how hard and also at what time the crisis will hit that particular area and if you are near to that area, you can prepare for it accordingly. Also after the natural calamity occurred it will show how much impact it has on the affected area and also on its surrounding areas.

What does Google say about it!

Later this month, Google maps will also provide you update regarding the crisis affected routes. It guides you to a better route if your route has impact by any natural calamity or crisis.

Later this summer, you’ll see a prominent alert if we think your route may be affected by crisis activity— and when possible, we’ll do our best to route you away from the disrupted area.

During the crisis, google maps will help you in three ways:

  • Share your location.
  • See and report road closures.
  • Share crisis information directly with the ones you care about.

What more?

Addition to the ”SOS Alerts”, Google is also rolling out the speedometer features to the Google maps too. As per Android Police, Google was rolling out essential Waze features to Maps, including speed limit indication and speed camera alerts. Google maps speedometer feature can be enabled in the app’s preferences under the Navigation Settings and appears in the bottom left corner of the screen next to the speed limit while the next person drives.

This means Google maps will now alert if you are over speeding. However, this feature will be rolling out first in these countries (Argentina, Australia, Belgium, Brazil, Canada, Czech Republic, Finland, Germany, India, the Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Sweden, Taiwan, the UK, and the US) and slowly after that to the rest of the world. However, right now this feature doesn’t fully work on Android Auto yet. But, if you are using the auto app, this feature will appear.

So, In the coming weeks, the Google maps will start rolling out “SOS Alerts” on Android, iOS, desktop, and mobile web and also the Speedometer feature.

So, let’s keep focus and analyze how this feature will be beneficial for mankind.

Finger crossed!
