Google Ads decided to remove Average Position Metrics on September 30

Google Ads Average Position Metric will be removed from 30th September. They revealed this news in February but the date was not disclosed.

As a result of uplifting Ad Position metrics, following existing feature also get disabled.

  • Rules using Average Position
  • Custom columns which use Average Position
  • A saved report which creates on the basis of Average Position
  • Saved Filter used Average Position

Reason to Remove Ads Average Position Metric

Google Ads Position Metric is replaced with two new metrics which provides a clearer view of your ad position on SERP.

Those metrics are Absolute Top Impression and Top Impression.

Absolute Top Impression is the percentage of impressions received by ads when shown as the very first ad above the organic search result.

Top Impression is the percentage of impressions received by ads when shown anywhere above the organic search results.
